Looks like I cannot put a door on the small cabinet next to the stove for various reasons, which is fine. I had to come home early yesterday because I forgot to unlock the gate and my kitchen guy couldn't leave through the front door since he didn't have a key to lock up behind him. I was beyond annoyed about it . . . so was he. So, when I saw the little cabinet I said my inside conversation outside:
Me: Um...what am I suppose to do with that? I can't put wine in there since it's right next to the stove.
Kitchen guy: Put mail in there?
Me: No.
Kitchen guy: Some people put little figurines in there?
Me: Do I look like the type of person who collects figurines and displays them in tiny cabinets?
Kitchen guy: No. No you don't.
Me: I'll figure it out.
So, yeah, a little testy. I also hope he didn't go home and dust his shelf of tiny figurines cursing my name.

Or just put down some bedding and let it become a den for the kitty... :)

Ah, this was the original plan, remove the shelves and use it for the baking sheets. Alas, it is actually a wall size cabinet (only 12 inches deep).
I think some bottles of sparking water would look snazzy in that spot.

i was going to say the same thing, cutting boards or cookie sheets, until i read it was only 12" deep. um, what? how frustrating!!
what about stacking kitchen linens like napkins and cute dishtowels?
How about putting spices in there? Is there away to make the shelves pull out?

It might be a little late for this suggestion, especially with the granite people coming in tomorrow, but if Ikea happens to make a shelf unit available in the base cabinet depth that would be aimed away from the oven,(ie 6-8" deep X 24" wide)you'd end up with twice the storage area because you could use the entire 24 inches and it would also be more accessible for napkins and things. Maybe Ikea makes something compatible in that size?
Another thing you could do with the unit you already have is to get some little baskets in that size, which Ikea MIGHT have, and store utensils and potholders and stuff in them. So they are basically functioning as little drawers, except that it is handy to be able to pull them all the way out. Just a thought....

Cookbooks are a great idea. Or maybe put in some drawers or baskets to store spices, small utensils, towels, things like that.
If you took the shelves out, would cookie sheets fit standing on their narrow end? Or maybe pot lids?

Do you have a rolling pin? You could put it there. I just got a rolling pin and my drawers are too small to fit it... it looks like it would fit nicely in your cubbies. Of course, I'm guessing you don't have FIVE rolling pins.
