How not to throw away trash in DC

So, we have new neighbors. I'm not sure where they are from . . . but we in DC recycle . . . neatly.

For more information on trash/recycling in the District go here.

  1. That's ridiculous. Leave a note on their front door or talk to them directly. If nothing good happens, and you are absolutely sure they are responsible, call DPW and they will be ticketed.

I say be absolutely sure because I have had trash dumped at the end of my house on more than one occasion. Nothing quite so garbage-pile-tastic, but I've had couches, paint cans, other random crap which I had no choice but to deal with. People just dump stuff sometimes, but based on the sheer volume/randomness of the trash it looks likely to be the occupants.

  2. Jamie,

Since they moved in a day or so before the pile of boxes etc appeared, I was pretty sure they were responsible.

Sometimes random strange trash is exciting...like someone left a stolen car in our alley that caused all kinds of commotion. Alas, a pile of unsorted and recyclable garbage reaching across the alley is not.

  3. Oh dear.

Perhaps a 'welcome the neighborhood' pie or bouquet,, and then a little conversation about the recycling system.

I always get more with sugar.

  4. Is this a rental property? I hope not!

Where I live, we play a game called "I wonder how long that will sit there". This would be - how long will it sit after the city has been called.
