Dreaming of kitchen gardens

At least twice a month I think about ripping out the grass in our small yard and planting a kitchen garden. But, then summer BBQs on the lawn, reading in the hammock and lawn bowling always win out. So, the grass stays. In the meantime, I can still dream about it.

Black bottomed love apples

We are in love. With the tomato plants. Everyday is like Christmas - we bound out of the house shouting and pointing over who can find the latest flower or budding tomato on the plants. With six plants, this can take a little more time than I'd like to spend at 8:15am.  But last week . . .I noticed that some of the precious plum tomatoes had a little brown to their bottom, a little sag in their sway, a little debbie to their downer.

At first I ignored it. Eh, they'll grow out of it, I thought.  But, alas, this was not the case. Nine little love apples had to come down yesterday. . . victim to blossom-end rot. Too little calcium. . .and probably too little water.

SATC2: Carrie & Big's Apartment

A friend of mine said to me: "That movie made me feel bad about my life". While I can't say I felt the same way . . . I was drooling over everything in Carrie and Big's apartment. The decor is like a good record. At first it's just "meh", but after the second or third listen/look you just can't get enough. What I really loved, was that living room!

Oh, the rug!

But, alas, that rug costs an arm . . .and a leg! Then, my mind wandered to an article about Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos' Georgetown home. . .and specifically THIER living room rug. Here it is:
 

The funny thing about this rug . . .she painted it herself! So, why couldn't anyone do that to create the look of the Marni Candy Rug that so wonderfully graces the floor in Carrie's apartment?

Hello Again

I know. It's been awhile. What can I say? I've been "busy" doing anything but home improvements. It didn't help that we were home only 2 weekends in a 10 week span. Though, I'm feeling the itch again. A few weeks ago I went out to the front to trim the ivy in the front planters and ended up ripping it all out. In 90 degree weather. . . this was a little unpleasant. But, I was just so sick of it. It's overgrown, has 112 other plants/weeds growing in it and it just didn't look good. So. . .see ya ivy! Now, there is a big dirt mound. Not better looking than before, but progress is being made.

Anyway, The posting should be more often...and exciting!
