It's here!

The front door light is here! But, it's only one. The smaller one has been back-ordered until late October. Once those are up, the front of the house will finally be complete! I will make sure to do a before and after montage with pictures.

In other news, I can figured out how to "fix" the side of the stairs and look forward to figuring it out.

Also, the closet quote is tonight so things should be moving along in that area!! I can't wait to get some closure on this (get it? Closure... ha ha. I know, lame).

One a sunny day, two light fixtures and one doorbell will meet their fate. They will arrive in a new land and take their place at center stage on the DC Rowhouse. That day is September 13th. (I hope you were hearing a deep manly movie-promo-type voice while reading that, I know I was.)



I am a little tentative to actually write down plans with dates. I like the "steps" method. This way, I can really procrastinate and no one is the wiser. Well, not this time (I hope). I ordered the lights and the new doorbell cover. Now I will have to get some mailboxes and I will be ready. Here are the lights I picked out:

Picking out those lights took MONTHS. I know, it's like "really", "really it took you months" (btw - I like to put words in your mouth, hope you like it). I saw some I liked at our local large box store and then, poof I started to see that same design everywhere. I was at a loss. I also had to find a light for below the front steps into our tenants place. For real, how DO I do it all! It was quite a pickle finding a set that I liked. Hopefully I still like these by the time September 13th rolls around. . .

DIY water fountain: Part I

The "front yard" of our house was one big ol' mess this weekend when I decided I would spruce it up my building a water fountain. All it took was one terra cotta planter, a fountain kit and some rocks. These instructions are for the easy fountain, Part II will involve inserting the cording through the pot.

Materials:

- Large Planter
- Fountain Kit (available at your local garden center)
- Landscaping Rocks (at Home Depot, come in bags of about 20 lbs, use any size you like)
- Outdoor extension cord may be needed to reach an outlet (or you can buy a solar fountain kit)

Cost: about $100

Step 1:

Get a large pot and position it in the space you want. I choose the "Mynta" pot from IKEA for it's weight (55 lbs) and large diameter. I think it was about $25.




Step 2:

Fill the pot with the landscaping rocks, leaving about 1/4 reserved for later. Make sure you wash the rocks off as there will be some dust/dirt on them. I neglected this step and you will see the consequences later.



Step 3: Assemble your fountain kit and place it on the rocks, adding the reserve rocks on top to hold it in the center. I got my fountain kit at a local garden center for about $70.




Step 4: Fill pot with water, plug in fountain cord to outdoor extension cord and bury the cord under a light layer or mulch.

** see how the water is cloudy? That is because I didn't wash the rocks off when I put them into the planter.

Part II will involve drilling the bottom of the planter and sealing the cord to create a sleeker look.
