Looks like no one really likes the curtain idea too much. I have to agree. In the quest to repair our closets I tossed this idea around for our guest room. But, I have to say, it just looks unfinished most of the time. And, while I was originally thinking about adding the swing out doors I think that is going to take up too much space.

If you are feeling ambitious and can spare about 4 inches from that side of the room, you could build a new stud wall right next to the existing one and install a pocket door. All old fashioned houses need a pocket door or two!

I like the curtain idea, but the ones that look the best are mounted inside the closet so the top of the curtain is completely concealed. Tie backs mounted inside the closet help hold the curtain back while you are searching for something. I also like curtains that at least hit the floor if not pool a little and the ones with a contrasting band at the bottom add weight and hand very nicely. I plan to do this to my daughter's room as soon as I can get her doors off. She shares a closet with her sister and they have sliding doors and constantly argue over who gets to look at her side.
I've seen a lot of closet curtains done poorly, but when done right it can be an elegant looking solution to a tight space.
